style dilemma #1

So, for my first official non-intro post... wearing tights as pants (à la Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Lindsay Lohan, Kate Moss, and others) - is it a yay or a nay?
THAT'S something I question all the time.

Personally: I'd love to try this quirky... style. Most of the tights I own have that little darker part at the very top, that makes it look like you're wearing shorts/hot pants/whatever your term is. So...why not? Pair it with a set of boots or flats and you've got something quite cool going on. Plus, it can be flattering if you have nice legs, and in general it's more flattering than something like, oh, flare jeans (shudder). People already wear leggings as pants, why not take it a step further?

Mainstream fashion says it's a no-no. (So does my school's dress code. Yuck. No "official" pants, you've got a detention with your name written all over it.) Upon Googling "wearing tights as pants", I found a number of articles bashing the look. "I do not want to see your butt in public" says the SMC Collegian (whatever that is, anyway), along with another reasoning against it, "On a realistic aspect, tights are also made of a thinner material than jeans and other pants. When a breeze comes frolicking by, your legs will feel every bit of that cold wind." Here's my rebuttal against their argument (pun not intended) - save it for the summer, when every breeze counts.

There's also a website made solely for the purpose of being against the look: tightsarenotpants.com.

I find that pre-tty funny.

Fashion faux pas or not, I plan on trying out this style (not in school - I could do without the detention and immature folks, merci beaucoup), and I'll write up a little 'report' about what happens. I mean, there are ways to wear tights as pants where you will not be offensively exposing yourself. Really. Wear a shirt long enough to cover your butt, and ta-da.

More to come.

+ Flavs.
